Towers for the Welfare State
£25.00
By Stefan Muthesius and Miles Glendinning
This book sets out to explain the sense of mission that reigned in the now quite distant 1950s and 60s. Tower blocks were to help with solving te problems of both inner urban congestion and outer urban sprawl. This was done through devising a multiplicity of plans as well as innovative methods of construction, chiefly in London.
The book then turns to the immensely rich and varied scenarios of tower building in all the other major cities in England and Scotland.
