In this final part of the course, we are going to look at standing figures in our sculpture park by two living British sculptors: Lawrence Edwards and Antony Gormley. Edward’s Man of Stones stands in natural surroundings, whilst Gormley’s three figures – Another Time II, III and IV – are sited on the built campus.
Continuing our reflections on our encounter with sculpture out of doors, and our own role as the embodied viewer, we will ask whether these standing figures can challenge, and even provoke us to think differently about ourselves, our experience of the world, and our relationship to our surroundings.
