New Perspectives: Episode 07 with Sara Sallam

Episode 07 with Sara Sallam

Egyptian artist Sara Sallam reflects on her experience of encountering ancient Egyptian objects in the Sainsbury Centre during her residency in late 2022, and considers what happens when these objects are understood as artworks. Sara Sallam works with photography, film, and writing, often re-appropriating archival material and self-publishing books. Through her work, she reflects on growing up in Egypt, criticising the colonial attitudes embedded in tourism, archaeology, museum practices, and photographic archives that prevent Egyptians from relating to their past.
