Most of Britain’s seaside resorts were developed by railways in the Victorian era. During the first decades of the 20th century, many of these resorts became very fashionable, thanks to fast and efficient services, many of which reflected an Art Deco vision of luxury and modernism, often promoted by striking posters. At the same time, mass market excursion and holiday services were at their peak.
A lecture exploring how new transport networks opened up the seaside to the modern traveller.
